About Us

Our mission is to know Christ and to make him known in the Lanyon Valley.

Our church was ‘planted’ in February 2006 as a new congregation of St Matthew’s Anglican Church, Wanniassa. In 2005, St Matthew’s had employed Jonathan Holt, a graduate from Moore Threological College in Sydney, specifically for this role.

Jonathan’s research took him to the southern suburbs of Canberra, especially the Lanyon Valley. By February 2006 a group of forty people left St Matthew’s and begun meeting together as the new Lanyon Valley Anglican Church. With the help of the Principal of St Clare of Assisi, the team established the congregation in the school hall in Conder.

We established programs such as Mini-Music, a bread run, church in the park on Good Friday and a Carols Night in December. We set up an excellent Sunday kid’s program, called ‘Kid’s Church’ as well as a youth Bible Study. It wasn’t long before we established a network of small groups to help our members grow into the disciples that Jesus desires us to be.

In February 2010 we celebrated our fourth anniversary. We have found that we need to put out more chairs on a Sunday and start more small groups. As we grow, so will our story, our part in God’s work to give eternal life to all who believe in Jesus, his Son, as both our saviour and their Lord.
