About Us

Our mission is to know Christ and to make him known in the Lanyon Valley.

It's hard to deny Jesus' influence on human history; almost everyone knows something about him. But more than just knowing about Jesus, we want to know him personally. In fact, we believe that by knowing Jesus like this we can find true satisfaction in life. And we're keen to share this with our friends and family in the Lanyon Valley.

A short history

In 2005 St Matthew's Anglican Church in Wanniassa employed Jonathan Holt, a graduate from Moore Threological College in Sydney. Jonathan arrived in Canberra with the brief to gather a team and start a new congregation.

Jonathan's research took him to the southern suburbs of Canberra, especially the Lanyon Valley. In conjunction with the newly formed team Jonathan began the process of preparation for the new church to start.

In February 2006 a group of forty people left St Matthew's and begun meeting together as the new Lanyon Valley Anglican Church. With the help of the Principal of St Clare of Assisi, the team established the congregation in the school hall in Conder.

And so began the work of reaching the valley, by programs such as Mini-Music, a bread run, church in the park on Good Friday and a Carols Night in December.

We set up an excellent Sunday kid's program, called 'Kid's Church' as well as a youth Bible Study. It wasn't long before we established a network of small groups to help our members grow into the disciples that Jesus desires us to be.

In February 2009 we celebrated our three year anniversary. We have found that we need to put out more chairs on a Sunday and start more small groups. As we grow, so will our story, our part in God's work to give eternal life to all who believe in Jesus, his Son, as both our saviour and their Lord.
